Iceland Road Trip
Welcome to part 2 of our epic 2 week Iceland road trip. If you missed part 1 Reykjavik to Vik check it out first.
We decided to kick off our Iceland road trip with a 2-night stay in Reykjavik. There wasn’t a lot we wanted to see here, so decided one day of sightseeing would be enough.
We chose the Icelandair Hotel Reykjavik Marina as our base as it was close to everything. From the photos it looked modern, clean and enticingly colourful.
When we visited Iceland, we were excited about experiencing a hot spring. After a lot of researching I decided the Blue Lagoon was out, it looked super busy and touristy (not to mention pricey!).
A firm favourite was the Secret Lagoon, or in Icelandic Gamla Laugin.
The Secret Lagoon is in Flúðir, close to the Golden Circle. It is the oldest swimming pool in Iceland, dating back to 1891.
I first came across Iceland after researching weekend city breaks. Reykjavik came onto my radar for the first time.
As I knew absolutely nothing about Reykjavik I started researching things to do. I soon came to realise however that there was so much more to Iceland than Reykjavik.
After finally convincing hubby and a lot of late night searching and pinning onto google maps, our 2 week road trip around Iceland was born.
Fast forward to April 2017 and the adventure finally begins!
When we first decided to visit Iceland in April I was clueless on the weather and temperatures we would be facing. I did a ton of research on what I needed to take and for the most part it worked well.
We visited for 2 weeks and didn’t plan on doing any washing so I felt it was harder to work out how many of each item we would need.
I did end up overpacking slightly (as I always do!) so I have refined my list below to what I actually used.
Iceland Road Trip Expenses Breakdown – How much does it cost to road trip in Iceland for 2 weeks?
Remember last November I set a budget for our Iceland road trip? Well I’m here today with an update for you! I have our actual Iceland road trip expenses from our 2 week road trip last month!
Only one thing really majorly changed from the original budget. We ended up renting a 2WD car rather than a 4×4 due to the cost. Everything else was pretty much as planned, no nasty surprises!
So without further ado, lets find out how much it actually costs to road trip in Iceland for 2 weeks in April.
So you have decided you want to explore Iceland’s ring road, but how do you do it?
Iceland does have a network of bus routes but these only run regularly from June to mid September. There aren’t any trains to get you around and taxis would be mega expensive.
If you want to explore the beauty of Iceland your only real option will be to hire a car.
